ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The car of shooting suspect, Diata Crockett, 34, was recovered Tuesday evening in Ferguson. But the search for the man suspected of killing his own child during a domestic dispute continues.
That shooting Tuesday afternoon set off an Amber Alert because two of Crockett's other children were with him in his car. Those children were found safe later Tuesday afternoon.
It's a case that has so many people, so many parents, shaking their heads in disbelief: a father suspected of shooting and killing his baby boy.
Police say Diata Crockett forced his wife into a car in Bellefontaine Neighbors. She bailed out of that car with her eight-month-old baby, Reien Crockett , near the Interstate 270 and Riverview exit in far north St. Louis city . That’s when St. Louis Police say Crockett fired one shot at her. That bullet struck his own son, killing him.
There were two other sons in the back seat, Blaze Crockett, 3, and Ryker Crockett, 2.. Police issued a SAARA alert for them and began searching for Crockett. The two children were later dropped off at the home of one of his relatives in Bellefontaine Neighbors
Hours later, Crockett’s car was discovered in the 2900 block of Caddiefield in Ferguson, MO.
Diata Crockett remains at large and was last seen wearing a lime green shirt and green pants. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case. You can remain anonymous.
Once arrested, Diata Crockett would face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, and armed criminal action.
