ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Police are looking for a group of older teenagers who they say robbed two women at gun-point in the Tower Grove South Neighborhood, then sprayed one in the face with mace.
The women were attacked around 9pm Saturday as they were getting into their car parked on the 3800 block of Humphrey.
Randy Richert says the victims are his sisters-in-law, who were just over visiting that night. He says at least one of the suspects was wearing a mask.
“They were mugged. It was terrifying,” Randy Richert said.
The suspects took off with one of the women’s purse and her car keys.
“I praise the St. Louis police department because they were here quick, they had the dogs out here sniffing and everything.”
They were able to retrieve the woman’s purse, which was dumped in a nearby yard. Richert says the credit cards and money was missing.
Neighbors posted a warning to others on social media, writing that another neighbor was nearly attacked by who they believe to be the same group of suspects that night. But as the post indicates they moved on, "maybe because he was working on his car and had a tool in his hand."
This all makes some uneasy and feel more needs to be done to keep the area safe.
One neighbor explained the time she was attacked in October of 2015. She only wanted to be known as “Lynn”.
“I was mugged and beaten right outside the post office,” she said. “I resisted that's why I was either kicked or hit in the face.”
She’s even advocated to her block leaders for paid security to patrol the street, or to install surveillance cameras. It’s something the neighborhood is looking into.
If you ask Richert, he loves the area, and doesn’t feel scared and urges paying close attention to your surrounds.
“This is a very random thing that's happened here,” said Richert. “Hopefully they catch these idiots.”
St. Louis Police are investigating.
