MASCOUTAH, IL (KTVI) – On Tuesday crews spent their day a Mid-America Airport.  The goal was to share information and prepare for a natural disaster.  The National Disaster Medical System held the exercise with more than 60 volunteers. Emergency crews simulated a natural disaster and chose a category 4 hurricane. The training is needed to make the process of receiving patients from disaster zones and their transport to local hospitals smoother.

The Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs all participated in Tuesday’s event. The last exercise was held three years ago and another one is planned for next year.
