ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - National take your dog to work day is this Friday, June 24 and the Humane Society of Missouri encourages you to celebrate the special event with a canine-themed casual Friday!

But if you can't just take your dog to work, keep these tips in mind.

  • Consider your coworkers - let them know ahead of time so everyone is on board with having a four-legged visitor.
  • Prep your pup - appropriate work attire for dogs includes a leash, a well-groomed coat and the very best manners.  If your pet is unhealthy, anxious around new people, or a little too excitable, it may be best to leave him or her at home.
  • Doggy bag duties - pack the items your pet will need, including food, a water bowl, quiet toys, clean-up supplies, and a blanket or bed to make your hound feel right at home.
  • Keep your cool - only bring your pup to work if there is a dedicated, air-conditioned place they can hang out. Dogs should never be left alone in a hot vehicle!

The Humane Society encourages participants to share photos to their Facebook page, facebook.com/HumaneSocietyofMO.
