ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - With record-breaking temperatures set to sweep across the St. Louis area, authorities are warning the heat wave could be dangerous.
The St. Louis City Fire Department is being proactive during the heat advisory and is delivering air conditioners to homes of people who need them, including low-income families, veterans, and the elderly.
Firefighters say air conditioners can be the difference between life and death.
Many families will be getting the gift of air conditioning this summer after Ameren Missouri donated 540 window air conditioners to Cool Down St. Louis. The units will be distributed to the disabled and elderly throughout the region.
On average, the St. Louis Fire Department says it averages about 10 to 12 calls per day for heat-related cases during a heat advisory.
