ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Today may be the hottest day of the year. You need to stay cool!

Melanie Di Leo is here from the all volunteer organization Cool Down St. Louis to talk about their effort to save lives during this hot summer spell.

The organization is very concerned about making sure people stay cool and safe this summer.

Yesterday, Ameren donated 500 air conditioners to citizens in need.

Di Leo reminds you to check on your neighbors, especially those with young children, and make sure to turn on the air!

Before you say that your afraid of the bills, call their hot line (314-241-7668) and they will direct you to the correct place to learn about financial assistance for paying utility bills.

If you'd like to donate to Cool Down St. Louis drop by any UMB Bank and leave a donation or send it to C/O UMB Bank, P.O. Box 868, St. Louis, MO 63118 .
