A man has come forward claiming to be the gay lover of the Orlando nightclub shooter, Omar Mateen.

In an interview with Univision, the man, who is going by the name “Miguel,” says he first met Mateen on the gay dating app Grindr.

He describes Mateen as a non-violent person who was seeking affection.

“Miguel” says they met more than 15 times at a hotel in Orlando for a couple months at the end of last year.

He told Univision he does not believe the nightclub attack is terror-related, but an act of revenge towards Latinos in retribution for feeling rejected by Puerto Ricans.

“Miguel” said Mateen intentionally targeted Latinos after he slept with a Puerto Rican man, and later learned that man was HIV positive.

He also said Mateen’s wife knew he was gay.

The FBI confirms investigators have spoken with Miguel.

The hotel employees say Mateen was a regular customer.
