ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – In the wake of Saturday’s double drowning at Castlewood State Park, people are still going swimming in the Meramec River. Emergency services personnel say the river in that area is extremely dangerous.

Saturday 18-year-old Henry Manu and 17-year-old Samuel Neal of St. Louis lost their lives in the seemingly calm waters of the Meramec River.  They were swimming near the boat ramp when witnesses say they entered the water and began to struggle.

Signs are posted around the boat and the beach warning simmers about the dangers in this section of the Meramec.

But incredibly, people are ignoring the signs and are swimming in the river, some with their children.

Authorities advise everyone to be smart, use life jackets and pick a new place to cool off.
