Girl, 13, drowns in southwest Missouri

TECUMSEH, Mo. (AP) _ A 13-year-old girl from Springfield has drowned in a river in southwest Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Chloe Butcher drowned Saturday evening in the North Fork River at Dawt Mill in Ozark County. The patrol says she was trying to help another swimmer but became stuck under the water and couldn’t resurface.

KOLR reports ( ) Butcher was pronounced dead at the scene.
