ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - It's a killer idea called tomato explosion! Feast Magazine, and 100 top local restaurants are going to battle to defeat hunger. They will participate a month-long restaurant competition to fill empty bellies by funding Derek May's organization Operation Food Search.

One of the restaurants participating is 1111 Mississippi. Executive chef Bob Colo-Simo visits to help us heal summer hunger.

Throughout July, servers at tomato explosion restaurants will present a special check stuffer, along with the dinner bill, offering customers an option to fill out a card to make a personal donation in the form of cash, check, or credit card.

Saturday Jubilee is a one-day region-wide food drive to restock May's distribution center and the shelves of the pantries at a time when food donations are typically down, yet it's the hungriest time of the year with more kids at home who otherwise would receive school meals. The summer food program provides free meals to kids.
