ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The rain stayed away from most of the weekend activities downtown Saturday morning.

Before the rain and thunder hit the area Saturday, runners pounded the pavement of downtown.

People dresses in their patriotic gear arrived to ballpark village bright and early for the annual Schnucks freedom 4 miler.

As runners pushed themselves during the last leg of the race local military service men were there to cheer them on and as they finished the race runners thanked them for their service.

After the race, the 134th veiled prophet parade took center stage in the streets of downtown St. Louis.

This year’s parade theme was hats off to our heroes, starting with parachute jumpers landing in the middle of Market Street.

People who had never seen the parade before were impressed before they even saw the first float.

For others it is a long standing annual tradition and a little rain didn`t scare them away.

The rain did eventually come but most of the morning was spent dry and even a little bit chilly.
