ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - As the nation wraps up celebrating the Fourth of July, the Muny comes to life with one of the most "American" musicals out there. The Music Man opens Tuesday, July 5, for a one week run. It is perfect timing as the show is set in Iowa on the 4th of July.

But The Music Man isn't the only play or musical with a nod to America and the American Spirit. St. Louis Post-Dispatch theatre critic Judith Newmark writes about ten productions perfect for the Fourth of July holiday in Sunday's A&E section. Her list takes us from 1904's  Little Johnny Jones, the  musical by George M. Cohan that gave us Yankee Doodle Dandy, to South Pacific to 1776 to the modern-day Hamilton.
