ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - A manhunt is on for a shooter, possibly carrying a semi-automatic rifle. He’s responsible for gunning down three people, killing two of them.
Police don’t have much of a description of the suspect, other than to say they believe he’s an African-American male wearing all dark clothing. He reportedly walked up along Page Avenue in North City and fired more than 60 shots.
It happened outside of Mama Minnie’s Market on the corner of Page and Pendleton. The shooting appeared to begin on Page, where officers marked more than a dozen shell casings. Then the firing continued around the corner and ended at a Buick Rendezvous.
St. Louis police Major John Hayden said it was “a vehicle that’s sustained heavy ballistics damage as well as two people just outside of the vehicle, both of those black male subjects in their 20’s are deceased.”
From behind the crime scene tape you could see the back window partially shot out, the driver’s side window completely blown out and three bullet holes appeared in the front windshield. Investigators marked more than 60 total shell casings in the street. Major Hayden added, “They are from some form of rifle.”
Major Hayden said it did not appear anyone was firing back. He added, “Then there was a third subject who was trying to get away from the shooter who actually entered the store and this individual was conveyed to the hospital.”
People who gathered did not want to talk on camera, but one woman said off camera she initially thought the gunfire was the sound of fireworks. As the woman talked, real fireworks exploded periodically, making the crowd increasingly tense as police investigated
