BALLWIN, MO (KTVI)- The Ballwin Police Department has identified the police officer wounded in the line of duty Friday, July 8,  as Michael Flamion. Flamion has worked in Ballwin for two years. Before that he worked for the De Soto Police Department for seven years.

On July 8th, 2016, at 11:00am, Flamion was shot while on a traffic stop in the 300 block of New Ballwin Road.  He is hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

Antonio Taylor, 31, has been charged in this incident.  He is facing charges of first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

In a prepared statement, Ballwin Police Chief Kevin Scott spoke about how highly regarded Officer Flamion is by everyone in the department, saying, “his sense of humor and professional demeanor make him a centerpiece of our department. Mike is an outstanding officer whom the citizens of Ballwin should be proud to call their own.”

Chief Scott also thanked Ballwin and entire St. Louis community for their support.

Chief Rick Draper of the De Soto, MO Police Department released the following statement on Saturday.

On 7/8/2016 a Ballwin Police Officer was returning to his vehicle during a traffic stop and was ambushed by the suspect. This Officer is now fighting for his life in a St Louis Area Hospital. The Officer is identified as Mike Flamion and is a former seven year Police Officer from our agency. Mike started his career in law enforcement at our agency in 2007 but has been serving the Ballwin Community for the past two years. While Mike was here, he was truly an asset to our agency and our community; he is the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back, kind hearted, outgoing and generous. This is a tragedy and we are praying for a full recovery. Mike has an amazing support system and tons of strong family and friends around him to keep his spirits high, we are praying for a speedy recovery and his families strength. We would also like his Ballwin Family and the community of Ballwin to know, we stand with you in this dark time, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
