TROY, MO (KTVI) – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a convicted sex offender who recently failed a mandatory registration as part of his post-prison sentencing.
According to Sheriff John Cottle, James Burt was convicted of first-degree child molestation of a girl under the age of 14 in March 2011.
After completing his prison term, Burt registered as a sex offender with the sheriff’s office in June 2016. In July, Burt failed to register again, prompting deputies with the county’s sex offender compliance unit to pay him at a visit at his listed address, but learned Burt had moved.
Burt does not own a car his last known mode of transportation is a bicycle. Investigators think he may still be living in the Troy area.
