“We feel it’s an important part of our business because people can come and enjoy their meal and play keno or spots,” says Ken Breier, co-owner Schottzie’s. “We have all the lottery functions and it gives them something to do while their meal comes and we have some pretty good winners in here.”
Like Michael Carlson, who won one million dollars after purchasing a Mega Millions ticket at Schotzzie’s. His $5 Quick Pick from the July 8 drawing matched all five numbers from the $540 million jackpot.
So Schottzie’s scored a double win for the restaurant.
“We’re fortunate enough to have the winner in our organization and he’s a young man who has done really well and we’re proud and happy for him,” Breier said.
The restaurant manager, who recently got married, wishes to keep a low profile. He plans to pay off his car and mortgage, invest the rest, and keep his restaurant job.
And that’s good news for this tight crew selling pizzas and brain sandwiches!
“He’s a great young man and he’s been with us and worked hard and we give him more responsibilities all the time,” Breier said. “Since he won this we probably won’t have to give him a raise. So that will be really good for us.”
Tennessee Williams once wrote that, “Luck is believing you’re lucky.” Of course, matching all five numbers in a Mega Millions drawing comes in handy as well.
