ST. CHARLES (KTVI) – If you are planning to hit the roads this weekend, the Missouri Department of Transportation has some major projects that could affect your travel plans.

Lane closures are expected on Interstate 70 in St. Charles.

Crews will close eastbound lanes of I-70 at Route 94 beginning at 10 p.m. Friday. Those lanes should reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday. Workers will do the same thing Saturday night at 10 p.m. on the westbound lanes of I-70 at 5th Street until Sunday morning.

Crews are setting girders for the new Fairgrounds Road bridge. MoDOT said drivers should plan ahead.

"The biggest message is to pay attention if you are in a back-up. Pay attention to what’s going on because accidents happen and a little fender bender can cause a big traffic problem,” said Jeanne Olubogun, a MoDOT engineer.

Another note is two lanes will be closed on I-64 from Ballas to Route 340 on Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and three lanes will be closed affecting the east and westbound lanes at Jung Station Road throughout the weekend.
