NORTH ST. LOUIS COUTY, MO (KTVI) - St. Louis County detectives are investigating the death of a toddler in North County. He was 21-months-old and he suffered severe injuries. Police are not calling it a homicide but the information they’ve released is ominous, they are also asking for anyone who knows anything to give them a call.

The dead child is John Wilbourne. Ronald Smith lives next door and last saw the youngster on Saturday playing in the front yard with his grandchildren. Smith said, “He looked fine they were running around like what kids do.”

Thursday morning police were called to the home for a sick call. They found the toddler suffering from injuries to his head and torso.  He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

The home is located in the 2500 block of Pershall Road which runs next to Interstate 270. Neighbors were sickened by what happened to the little boy.  Smith added, “That’s sad man I hate to see any child really get hurt like that or die from injuries.”

He says the family lived in the home for only about six months.  They were not home Wednesday evening.
