BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) – A Bloomington man has been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents.

The Pantagraph reports that 25-year-old Brian Petersen appeared via video at a court hearing Monday when a judge set bond at $6 million.

Prosecutors say Peterson stabbed his mother, Nancy Petersen, three times in the chest and his father, Bruce Petersen, in the back on Sunday morning.

State’s Attorney Jason Chambers says Bruce Petersen called emergency dispatchers around 9 a.m. Sunday and told police he and his wife had been stabbed by their son, who lived with them.

Nancy Petersen died at the scene. Bruce Petersen was airlifted to a Peoria hospital, where he died around 3:45 p.m.

Brian Petersen is scheduled to appear in court again Aug. 12.
