Law enforcement, communities gather for National Night Out

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI)- It`s an annual law enforcement tradition across the country. National Night Out and this year's even has even greater significance.

Many other communities in our area will participate in the annual event .

Following week's of tension between some communities and police that ended in deaths of both law enforcement and civilians, hundreds of cities across the country will host their own event out events Tuesday night.

The goal is to bring neighbors together allow them to interact with police officers, in hopes of fostering partnerships. Many communities, neighborhood associations, churches and other groups will participate working with police to help fight crime .

If you can`t make it to one of those law enforcement encourages you to turn your porch light on spend the evening outside getting to know your neighbors and the officers that patrol your neighborhood. Hundreds communities in our area have registered for this year`s National Night Out.

Most events take place after the polls close Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.
