Police shoot stolen vehicle suspect after chase; searching for 2nd suspect

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Police tell FOX 2 News that there was an officer involved shooting in north St. Louis Tuesday afternoon.   Police were chasing suspects wanted for stealing a vehicle.  The shooting happened in the 5800 block of Theodosia. No officers were injured.   One suspect is in the hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest.  The other suspect is still at large.

St. Louis Police were pursuing two people spotted in a stolen Jeep. The vehicle had been stolen on July 29th in University City.

During the pursuit police put out spike strips and flattened the tires of the suspect's vehicle. It eventually ran into a fire hydrant and crashed.

Two suspects jumped out of the jeep and ran down an alley. Both were carrying guns.

Officers foot pursuing the suspects told them to stop and drop their weapons. One suspect turned with a gun in his hand. An officer fired two shots, striking one suspect in the torso. The other suspect got away.

The 22-year-old suspect shot by police was taken to the hospital and is being treated. Police said the suspect was in “satisfactory” condition.

Investigators continue to search for the second suspect.
