CHICAGO (AP) _ Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says his office has resumed sending vehicle registration reminder notices that he stopped sending during the budget standoff.

White said Monday that the stop-gap budget that state lawmakers passed over the summer means he can resume sending the notices. But to make sure he can keep doing so he says he’s drafting legislation that will allow his office to offer advertising space on the mailings.

White announced last year that the budget standoff forced him to suspend mailings to save an estimated $450,000 a month.

White is also urging motorists to sign up for email registration reminders as a way to save the state the money it costs to send the reminders through the mail.
