Fiery crash kills 1 on IL Route 3

CAHOKIA, IL (KTVI) – One person is dead following a fiery crash involving a pick-up and a tanker-truck in Cahokia Illinois.  Authorities say the fatal crash happened Saturday morning around 6 am on Illinois Route 3 at the intersection of Judith Lane in Cahokia

A witness stated that the driver of the pick-up was traveling 80 to 90 miles per hour and slammed into a tanker truck that was pulling out of the Phillips 66 refinery.  The pick-up truck drove directly into the center of the tanker causing the pick-up truck to catch fire

Ron Sellers, who drives a tanker, was there when the crash happened and captured video as both vehicles burst into flames.

Sellers say thick black smoke could be seen for miles, as hazmat crews responded to the scene as a precaution.

Traffic was tied up for several hours as accident reconstruction crews conducted the investigation.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
