Body of teenage drowning victim found in Washington State Park

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Saturday evening a 15-year-old Imhed Wright of St. Louis teenager lost his life in the Washington State Park in Washington County Missouri.

Shortly after 6 pm a call went out for teenage swimmer in distress from the park in the Big River.

According to an adult witness, Imhed was with his brother and friends at a boat ramp in Washington State Park near Highway 104 and 21.  The brother and friends had swum to a gravel bar in the river, awaiting Imhed to swim over.

The teen attempted to swim to the gravel bar, but was pulled under by an undertow in the river.

Water rescue teams were dispatched from De Soto Fire Department, High Ridge Fire Protection District and Potosi Fire Department.

Rescue teams recovered Imhed's body shortly after 8 pm from the Big River.

Chief Roger LaChance from the Potosi Fire Department said the area where the drowning occurred is known to have a strong undertow.
