MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI)-The top two Maryland Heights police officers are on paid leave. Chief Bill Carson and Deputy Chief Joe Delia were suspended Thursday. The city says it has begun an in-depth review following complaints regarding a potentially unfair work environment at the police department.

The newly hired city administrator James Krischke released a statement in part saying the city is committed to ensuring that all employees can work in a safe environment and express their opinions without fear of retribution.

The Maryland Heights Police Association says they strongly back the chief and assistant chief. The attorney for one of the men plans a press conference Friday.
