ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Interstate 44 just west of downtown St. Louis will be closed this weekend. The shutdown began Friday night. The closure includes both direction of I-44 from Vandeventer to Jefferson. MoDOT is in the process of replacing the Grand Blvd. overpass. The old northbound lanes will be demolished this weekend.
MoDOT expects traffic to resume on I-44 and Grand Blvd. by 5 a.m. Monday. Two-way traffic on Grand Blvd. will be shifted to the southbound lanes while the 2nd half of the new overpass is completed. That’s expected to happen by the end of the year.
This is a busy weekend in St. Louis. The St. Louis Cardinals have a home series against the Oakland A’s. The Festival of Nations is taking place in Tower Grove Park. MoDOT says there is never a good weekend for construction, and advises drivers to use I-55 or I-64 as alternatives.
