VILLAGE OF RIVERVIEW, MO (KTVI) – A north St. Louis County woman was taken to the hospital Monday night after a fire in her basement forced her out of the home.
Riverview Fire Chief Keith Goldstein said the call came in shortly after 7 pm Monday. The home is located at Durness and Banavie.
Firefighters showed a Fox-2 videographer the back of the house and the basement, which is where investigators believe the fire started.
Braxton Hughes is a neighbor who came to the woman’s rescue, after he called 911.
Hughes said, “She came running out the door as I called it in. She didn’t have on no clothes. There was a fire in her basement so were trying to get her away from the house. As we were getting her away from the house, it was just a bunch of smoke. She went up the street and we put a towel around her. She was burned pretty bad and her hair was on fire.”
Chief Goldstein said arson and explosives investigators were called to the scene as a matter of standard procedure when a burn victim is transported to a hospital. However, he said he does not believe the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature.
