WASHINGTON PARK, IL (KTVI) - Washington Park police and Illinois State police detectives are investigating the murders of a young pregnant woman from Saint Genevieve County in Missouri and a young man from East St. Louis.

The two were shot while driving in a car near the intersection of 47th St. and Hallows Avenue in Washington Park. It happened about 9:30 PM Sunday. 24-year-old Anthony Pennell Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger 23-year-old Amber Bieser died Monday morning in a St. Louis Hospital along with the three-month-old fetus she was carrying. However, her two-year-old son survived. He was sitting in the back seat. A neighbor who heard the gunshots realized a child was in the vehicle when he heard the toddler's cries.

The man took the little boy from the car and then began praying for his mother. He said "I asked her do you know Jesus, she shook her head yes. And I said you hold onto Him."

Monday night, Bieser’s mother said she wanted to thank the man for coming to her daugher’s side.

Family members are caring for Bieser's child. She worked as a certified nurse's assistant at a retirement home in Missouri.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
