Nelly needs over 280 million streams to pay off tax debt

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Hip-hop star Nelly is in trouble with the IRS for unpaid taxes.

The ‘Country Grammar’ singer faces a federal tax lien and owes Missouri state taxes as well.

According to entertainment news site TMZ, Nelly owes Uncle Sam more than $2.4 million in back taxes. His Missouri tax bill is about $150,000.

Music magazine Spin has calculated that fans could help Nelly by streaming his songs on Spotify, which pays artists $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream. Fans would have to play his songs approximately 287 million times to pay off his debt.
