SHILOH, IL (KTVI)- A Tennessee man has been charged with felony fleeing and eluding after leading Shiloh, IL police on a high-speed chase near Scott Air Force Base on Sunday.

Shiloh police responded around 2:10am Sunday to an incident at the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink station, where security said they had stopped a man from driving onto the pedestrian crossing to the base.

The suspect vehicle was illegally parked on the Metro Link parking lot. When officers attempted to make traffic stop, the driver, identified as Brandin P. Lawless, of Clarksville, Tennessee, sped off.

Police took off after Lawless, who eventually tried to get onto Scott Air Force Base property through the Shiloh gate before he was stopped by security barriers. He again sped off, but eventually drove into a ditch near the base’s Wherry Road gate.

Lawless and a passenger in the car were taken into custody. The passenger was later released without charge.

On Monday, the St. Clair County Assistant State’s Attorney charged Lawless with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding. He is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $75,000 bond.
