ALTON, IL (KTVI) – Autopsies are scheduled Friday morning for a man and a woman whose bodies were found in a first floor apartment in Alton.

The two had collapsed on the kitchen floor in a three-family building in the 1500 block of Sparks. A maintenance man discovered them and called police.

Katrina Caldwell, a neighbor, said the woman had a 2-year-old daughter. The child was not present in the apartment.

“I was the last person to see them alive. I talked to them between 10 and 11 last night and they were both fine, both seemed sober, and then I hear about this,” Caldwell said.

The Madison County Coroner's Office said there were no signs of violence or visible wounds, but an exact cause of death will not be ready until autopsies and forensic tests can be completed.

Police are not releasing any names in this case until relatives have been notified.
