4-Alarm fire displaces South County apartment residents

SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - Firefighters battled a 4-alarm fire early Saturday morning in Affton.  Investigators say the blaze damaged multiple condos in the Southridge Condominium located on 10000 block of Echoridge Lane.

Dozens of residents who had to be evacuated and most are without a home.

Subha and her 4-year-old son were in their condo when the fire broke out.   She says she woke up to thick black smoke and heavy flames.  She heard fighters knocking on her door and that's when she   discovered the condo right next door was fully engulfed in flames to her surprise.

Fire crews from nearby communities responded as the fire escalated to four alarms.

Residents had to be evacuated and various condos sustained serious damage leaving many residents displaced.

The property manager says she just grateful no was hurt in the blaze.

Reportedly 11 families are now without a home

The American Red Cross says at least 20 to 25 people will be displaced from their homes for a few days.

They are assisting the emergency needs of the families and persons for shelter, food, clothing and replacement medications.
