DELLWOOD, MO (KTVI) - The St. Louis County Bomb and Arson squad is investigating an early morning fire at a popular North County restaurant. Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire at Sweetie Pies.

The popular restaurant is located on West Florissant Ave. in Dellwood and just re-opened in May after being closed for several years.  St. Louis County Bomb and Arson has taken over the investigation to make sure the fire was not intentionally set.

The owner’s sister and manager says when she heard about the fire she rushed to the restaurant fearing the worst, “All kinds of thoughts were going on”.  Did we leave something burning, we are sure we turned off everything, “said Janice O'Mannon.

The call came out around 3 am Sunday for a report of flames shooting from the roof.  Upon arrival fire fighter had to break the glass out the front door to get to make sure the fire had not spread inside.  “A small fire unknown origin on the roof.  We could not see any reason that it should be there, so we called in St. Louis County Bomb and Arson to come by and investigate it,” said Fire Chief Floyd Renner.

Workers were able to clean up the water damage and open for business Sunday.   Just few months ago at this same location, police responded to a report of smash-and-grab burglary. Detectives say a burglar smashed the front window and took off with some cash. It has also been the subject for several years of a TV series on the Oprah Winfrey Television Network. “We are very fortunate to have a reality show and it gives us the opportunity to meet and see a lot of people here in St. Louis,” said  O’Mannon.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
