New book highlights ‘The Colorful Characters of St. Louis’

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-One man has made it his mission to expose the most memorable mugs of St. Louis. This Sunday, October 1st, The Royale on South Kingshighway will host a release party for author Jim Merkel’s new book The Colorful Characters of St. Louis. This book profiles over 80 notable members of the St. Louis community.

While featuring several entertainers and performers, the book also highlights “Rebels With A Cause,” focusing on the work of prominent activists such as Josephine Baker, Larry Rice, and Reverend Kenneth McKoy. The book also features former KTVI personality and “first lady of St. Louis TV” Charlotte Peters.

Merkel stopped by FOX 2 this morning to discuss the book as well as provide details on the release party happening this weekend.
