MADISON COUNTY, IL (KTVI) - A death investigation is underway after elderly man was found dead at a mobile home park in unincorporated Madison County Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around midnight in the 5200 block of Chain of Rocks Road. Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene of a structure fire and arrived on scene to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators found the body of 70-year-old John Douglas Beckovich. Detectives said Beckovich’s daughter was able to escape. Her father was confined to a rear bedroom due to poor health. Beckovich's daughter and neighbors attempted to pull him from the burning home, but the fire was too intense.

A preliminary investigation indicated Beckovich appeared to have died as a result of smoke inhalation. The death remains under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Department until a formal autopsy is conducted.

Authorities said although there were numerous oxygen tanks inside the home for use by the victim, the cause and origin of the fire remains unknown. Funeral arrangements remain pending at this time.
