Homicide detectives investigating human skull found in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating after a human skull was found in north St. Louis.

According to Schron Jackson, a police spokeswoman, workers with Laclede Gas discovered the remains around 8:50 a.m. in the 4500 block of Riverview Boulevard, located behind a vacant building right off Interstate 70.

It's unclear if the skeletal remains belonged to a man or woman.

Our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report a detective went into some underbrush and emerged with a black purse. A vehicle from the office of the medical examiner is also on the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
