ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – According to CNN analysis projection Tuesday night, Republican Donald Trump will win Missouri and the state’s 10 electoral votes, defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The result is not a surprise, as the state had been considered “leaning Republican” for months and some polling indicated Trump had a double-digit advantage in the race’s waning days. The GOP’s presidential nominee has now carried Missouri in five presidential elections dating back to 2000.

While both candidates appeared here last month for a debate held at Washington University, neither candidate appeared in the state for a campaign event following the state’s primary in the spring. Trump came to St. Louis in September for Phyllis Schlafly’s funeral.

Both campaigns advertised on television here. Clinton also pumped money into down-ballot races in the state, hoping to boost the chances at a Democratic majority in the Senate by helping Jason Kander, and to keep the governor’s mansion in party hands with Chris Koster.
