ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton has won the race for president in the state of her birth.

According to an CNN analysis and projection after polls closed Tuesday night, Clinton will carry the State of Illinois, beating out businessman Donald Trump.

There was little doubt Clinton would take the prize. George H.W. Bush was the last Republican presidential candidate to carry Illinois when he defeated Michael Dukakis in 1988. The question was if her victory would carry over for down-ballot candidates like U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Duckworth.
