Dr. Kevin Blinder has some of the surprising health risks tied in with Diabetes

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - With November being National Diabetes Awareness Month, Dr. Kevin Blinder has more about the disease and some of the surprising health risks that are associated with it.

Vision complications are one of the key signs and symptoms of diabetes. Diabetes can effect the eyes by leading to cataracts, glaucoma, and muscle strains in the eye.

There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, formerly called juvenile onset, which usually is caused by a lack of insulin. Type 2 diabetes can happen at any age and is when the body isn't able to use insulin in the right way.  Be aware of signs and symptoms of diabetes year round.
