Man charged in attack on Vietnamese businessman

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged a 34-year-old man in connection with an attack and robbery on a Vietnamese businessman last month in the Gravois Park neighborhood.

According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the attack occurred October 24 just after 11:50 a.m. in the 2700 block of Cherokee Street.

The victim, a 64-year-old man, was walking in the alley behind businesses when another man approached and attacked him. The attacker punched the victim in the face and stole his wallet.

The victim, who suffers from stage-4 cancer, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Police eventually tracked down and arrested a suspect, identified as 34-year-old Danny Barnett. He was charged Monday with second-degree robbery. He remains jailed on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
