ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Union Station has undergone a holiday makeover. The owners of the hotel and once thriving mall believe they will turn the historic landmark into a destination for visitors.

The list of this year’s holiday attractions and activities is long. The cost for each activity varies.

The hotel was purchased by Lodging Hospitality Management Inc. in 2012.

“If we do something spectacular, people will come,” said Tom Lyons, a Union Station spokesperson.

Union Station will have an ice skating rink and a slide for snow tubing. The inside of Union Station has been transformed into the look of the North Pole with several activities for children. There is also a train ride called the Santa Express.

“We’re actually 3-D mapping two large buildings and we’re having 20 different trees that are LED lighted and synchronized to holiday music,” Lyons said.

He said the owners have taken a hard look at similar displays in other cities and firmly believes their investment will pay off.
