EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – The Macy's Great American Marching Band features the finest high school musicians and performers from across the country. This year, three students from Edwardsville High School were selected to perform with the prestigious group.

Marcus Kwasa, Erika Axtell, and Maria Arzuagas are juniors at Edwardsville High School. Kwasa is a member of the band's drum line. Axtell and Arzuagas perform with the school's color guard.

Each student submitted an audition tape in hopes of being selected to perform in the parade.

"I know it was a heartwarming time for all of us," Axtell said of their reactions after learning they were chosen. "I know both me and Maria were crying."

Kwasa is one of 230 students making up the Great American Marching Band. Axtell and Arzuagas join 28 other members of the parade color guard.

Macy's estimates 3.5 million people fill the streets of New York City each year to watch the iconic parade. An estimated 50 million people watch from home.
