PINE LAWN, MO (KTVI) – A Pine Lawn home went up in flames early Monday morning, forcing residents in a next door apartment building to be evacuated.

Fire crews got the call just before 5 a.m. this morning. The home where the fire started is on Natural Bridge at Sylvan and has been vacant for five years.

When the first crews arrived at the scene, they found the first and second floors of the home engulfed in flames. The gusty winds helped to fan the flames. Flames ate through the roof of the house and at least one side of the outer frame.

A second alarm was sounded right away, bringing in crews from several area departments.

One big concern for firefighters was an occupied apartment building just feet from the home that caught fire. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to that apartment building.

The residents were evacuated as a precaution.

The home that caught fire is owned by the Holy Temple Church of God and Christ, which is located right across the street. A church spokesperson said the church had planned to renovate the home.

Chief of the Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District Quinten Randolph said there have been some issues with vagrants breaking into the vacant home.

The good news is that nobody was hurt in the fire.

A cause for this fire is undetermined at this point.
