ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – It’s a happy birthday and fond farewell as a 90-year-old trapeze artist takes her final flight!

For her 80th birthday, Elizabeth “Bunny” Herring ran away and joined the circus.

It was a throwback to her younger years when, at 18, Herring joined Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus to be a showgirl. At that time, Bunny promised her parents she would not do anything aerial.

But to celebrate turning 80, she took to the air for the first time, and has been living her dream and performing as an aerialist at City Museum’s Circus Harmony ever since.

Bunny turned 90 in October and celebrated by taking her final flight Friday night.

And while she loves to fly, Bunny said her real passion is a bit bigger.

“I’d like to go back to elephants,” she said. “That’s what I’d really like, but they wouldn’t hire me in the circus and I can’t afford an elephant.”
