Cardinals sign Dexter Fowler to multi-year deal

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- The Cardinals have signed outfielder Dexter Fowler to a multi-year deal. The nine-year Major League player passed the Cardinals team physical and has signed a five-year-contract worth $82.5 million.

Fowler spent the past two seasons in Chicago playing for the Cubs. The center fielder, who hits lead off, helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series, their first in 108 years.

He is a switch hitter with a .268 career batting average and a .366 career on base percentage.

The free agent outfielder arrived in St. Louis on Thursday night. The team announced that Fowler was coming to town to take a physical. Hours after his arrival, the Cardinals announced a 10 a.m. press conference on Friday morning.

Fowler has also played for the Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros in his big league career.
