ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A St. Louis police sergeant wounded in the line of duty last month is speaking out for the first time.
Sergeant Tom Lake was honored Friday by the St. Louis Board of Aldermen with a commendation recognizing his service. Lake said he was thankful and humbled by the honor but he used the opportunity to call on the aldermen to boost funding for police.
“We’re at a crossroads in this city. We need to find a way to make it the way it was – safe for everybody, not only visitors, but the citizens that live here that pay the taxes that move forward to help this city,” he said. “I’m all for growth, but we have to find a way to grow our services.”
In the meantime, Lake said he’s taking his recovery one day at a time and that things are going as well as can be expected.
