ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-A new, state-of-the-art dental center is open in Lafayette Square at 1500 Park Avenue. St. Louis Dental Center aims to serve the under served in the community.

The 79,000 square foot facility has 93 dental chairs and offers convenient and affordable dental care to children, families, veterans and seniors.

Third and fourth year dental students of the A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) provide care under the supervision of licensed dentists. Dr. Dwight E. McLeod, Dean of ATSU-MOSDOH, says the university is committed to addressing oral healthcare disparities across the state, and students provide high quality, comprehensive and affordable oral healthcare for a variety of patients.

According to McLeod, some people with physical or mental disabilities, obesity, pregnant, children and/or the elderly may not be accommodated at some dental centers and, therefore, do not get the care they need. "We can accommodate them," he said.

The St. Louis Dental Center houses an innovative partnership ATSU-MOSDOH and Affinia Healthcare. The university is responsible for student development and education while Affinia Healthcare supervises clinic operations.

The program's first graduation is scheduled for June.
