Southbound I-55 closed near Potomac following accident

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Rush hour traffic on Interstate 55 in south St. Louis was brought to a standstill following an accident involving two vehicles.

The accident occurred just before 3:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Potomac Street.

According to Leah Freeman, spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, one of the vehicles left the scene before police arrived.

Two people in the remaining vehicle were ejected from their car. They were rushed to a hospital and said to be in stable condition.

The interstate reopened by 4:45 p.m.
