ALTON, IL - Drivers who use the Clark Bridge in Alton over the Mississippi River could face delays for the rest of the month.

Lanes are scheduled to close Monday so crews can do work on the bridge deck. IDOT says crews will shut down one lane in each direction during the daylight hours. That will leave only one lane open going each way over the bridge for drivers.

However, there will be some exceptions during the morning and afternoon commute times.

IDOT says all southbound lanes will be open Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. for the morning rush. Then all of the northbound lanes will be open for the afternoon rush, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

IDOT says the lane closures are needed so crews can seal the existing bridge surface. The work is expected to be done by the end of this month. The closures should only be in effect Monday through Friday.

IDOT is asking drivers to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone on the bridge.
