ALTON, IL — The Alton city council is set to vote today on license plate readers on the Clark Bridge.

Police say criminals are stealing cars in Missouri and driving over the bridge to commit crimes. Officials say cameras to read license plates would help send criminals to jail. License plate readers notify police whenever they detect a wanted license.

IDOT has already approved putting the cameras on the bridge.
